Ohio Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System
YRBS: Youth Risk Behavior Survey
The Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) is a population-based survey of students in grades 9 through 12. Until recently, little was known about the prevalence of behaviors practiced by young people that put their health at risk. The YRBS, developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), now provides such information. The YRBS provides information on risk behaviors among young people to more effectively target and improve health programs.
The YRBS is conducted every two years. Ohio has participated in the YRBS since 1993. The Ohio Department of Health, Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addition Services, and the Ohio Department of Mental Health jointly sponsor the Ohio YRBS.

Healthy Ohio Program – Ohio Department of Health
Healthy Ohio is a key component of Governor Ted Strickland’s comprehensive health care reform initiative and is located in the Ohio Department of Health (ODH). Healthy Ohio’s goal is to improve the health of all Ohioans to create a better quality of life, assure a more productive workforce and equip students for learning, while also contributing to the more efficient and cost-effective use of medical services.
Healthy Ohio’s three core program areas of health promotion, disease prevention and health equity work collaboratively with public and private partners and consult with the Healthy Ohio Advisory Council to create the changes in communities, worksites, schools and health care settings that lead to better health for all Ohioans.

Center for Public Health Statistics and Informatics (CPHSI)
Purpose: Health data is a valuable resource critical to meet ODH strategic and programmatic needs. ODH requires a centralized area responsible for overseeing the collection, analysis, dissemination and use of health data to support the mission of protecting and promoting the health of Ohioans. Furthermore, as funds are reduced, it is critical to efficiently collect and manage health information, including electronic health information exchange--essential to reduce health system costs both private and public.
