“Rural Voices: Caring for Trans and Gender Diverse Communities in Rural America” on Thursday, June 7th, 2018 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM in Athens, Ohio. This event is being presented in partnership with the Equitas Health Institute for LGBTQ Health Equity, The Department of Family Medicine at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, and the Ohio University Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Center.
The objectives of the 2018 Rural Voices Summit are as follows:
1. Develop a foundational knowledge about gender diversity, including health needs and disparities
2. Increase skills and confidence for providing medical and behavioral health services to transgender and gender diverse communities
3. Identify strategies to meet the unique healthcare needs of gender diverse communities in a rural context
4. Connect health and social service providers with resources for transgender & gender diverse communities.
Summit highlights include a Keynote address by Scott Leibowitz, MD, and a screening of “Deep Run,” Susan Sarandon's powerful verité portrait of trans life in rural North Carolina.
